What Is The Best Thing To Clean A Bin?

Cleaning a bin can be done with just about any substance that you would use to clean anything else in your kitchen.

Soap and water is always a good bet – this is mild enough to not damage the bin, yet able to clean it at the same time.

Vinegar mixed with water is another good option; this is a gentle, natural cleaning agent which can also do away with bad smells.

Disinfectant is a great option – this will clean the bin as well as removing germs and bacteria, and should leave a pleasant smell.

Bicarb is another of those natural cleaners which is highly effective at cleaning as well as removing offensive odours.

Bleach and water can also be used; just remember to always dilute it as bleach is a  very serious cleaner!

A pressure washer is a good option for a large, sturdy outdoor bin – you can blast the inside with a strong jet of water to remove any debris.

Whether you want to use chemical cleaners or go down the natural route, cleaning your bin needn’t be a mammoth task!

Can I Use Bleach To Clean Bin?

Bleach is a great cleaner, although it can be quite harsh on skin and eyes, so you always need to take a little care with it.

Using bleach to clean your bin is a good idea; it can remove bad smells as well as getting rid of germs and bacteria.

If you do decide to go down this route, make sure that you dilute the bleach with water in a 50 50 ratio, to keep it as safe as you can.

Some people with sensitive skin can react to bleach, so if this is you then make sure to wear gloves.

The fumes from bleach can sometimes irritate the eyes, so it’s best to do your bleaching outdoors, or at least open a window.

How Often Should You Clean Your Bin?

How often you clean your bin depends on how disgusting it gets, and also what you are putting into it!

As a rule of thumb, however, you should give your bin a once over every week. You can just add it to the schedule of changing the bag over!

A good, deep clean of your bin can be left for a monthly task, as long as it doesn’t get disgusting and smelly in the meantime.
